Jammu University is set to organize a three-day workshop focusing on the implementation of NEP-2020.

The University of Jammu, in partnership with the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, is poised to host a groundbreaking three-day workshop entitled “Capacity Building in Leadership Development of Academic Administrators and Principals for NEP-2020 Implementation.” This pivotal initiative marks a significant stride towards reshaping India’s educational landscape to meet global standards, with a particular emphasis on the internationalization of higher education, as highlighted in a statement released by the university.

Designated as the nodal university for the orientation, sensitization, and capacity building of educators, administrators, and stakeholders for the effective implementation of NEP 2020, the University of Jammu reaffirms its dedication to advancing educational excellence. During a curtain-raiser press conference, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairperson of the Higher Education Council, Government of Jammu and Kashmir UT, and Chancellor of Kumara Mangalam University, underscored the transformative potential of NEP in nurturing a Knowledge Economy essential for sustained economic growth. He stressed the significance of involving students in NEP principles to empower them with newfound academic freedoms. Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, emphasized the paramount importance of curriculum revision in light of NEP-2020, proudly acknowledging the university’s leadership role in its implementation, positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a pioneer in delivering quality education. The workshop will delve into policy execution, with a particular focus on universities experiencing a surge in youth enrollment.

Prof. Rai highlighted a shift towards maximizing online course offerings, providing students with flexibility in selecting subjects beyond their colleges’ offerings. Dean Academic Affairs and Convener of the workshop, Prof. Anju Bhasin, provided a comprehensive overview of the event, revealing that 250 participants have registered, with 35 speakers scheduled across ten sessions over three days.

With India boasting the world’s second-largest education system and witnessing a remarkable 27 percent increase in higher education participation, the focus has shifted towards holistic reform. The university emphasized that the objective is not merely reform but a complete overhaul to offer top-tier curricula and institutions capable of global competition. NEP-2020 serves as the guiding framework in this transformative journey. Themed “Internationalization of Higher Education,” the workshop convenes key stakeholders – university leaders, administrators, and academics – to deliberate on aligning university systems with NEP-2020’s vision.

The workshop features presentations, discussions, group work, and case study overviews, providing ample opportunities for communication and knowledge sharing.
