McDonald’s has become part of the government-backed ONDC network, with its integration spanning 200 outlets across North and East India.

McDonald’s India North & East has taken a significant stride by joining the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

This integration enables McDonald’s menu, including exclusive à la carte and meal options, to be accessible across various ONDC buyers’ applications.

Rajeev Ranjan, Managing Director of McDonald’s India – North and East, expressed, “With the power of ONDC’s technologically enabled fully integrated inclusive consumer-friendly platform and our strength of high-quality great-tasting food served quickly with a smile every time, we are committed to building a more profound and meaningful connection with our customers.”

Revolutionizing digital commerce, T Koshy, MD, and CEO of ONDC, stated, “McDonald’s India integration with the ONDC Network marks a monumental milestone in our journey to revolutionize digital commerce across the country.”

He emphasized that McDonald’s integration underscores the growing acceptance and trust established brands like McDonald’s have in ONDC’s open, inclusive, and interoperable network, amplifying their commitment to empower businesses, foster healthy competition, and provide consumers with unparalleled choice and convenience.

ONDC, backed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), aims to unbundle the existing closed networks of digital commerce, allowing small businesses to participate more freely.

Offering a relatively cheaper option for food delivery compared to competitors like Swiggy and Zomato, ONDC charges commissions around the single-digit range. Although some view the pricing strategy as potentially unsustainable due to network-sponsored discounts, it presents a competitive edge in the digital commerce space.

McDonald’s, with over 6,000 employees and approximately 200 outlets across North and East India, operates through various formats, including freestanding restaurants, drive-thrus, and McDelivery. The operational diversity, coupled with ONDC’s reach, positions McDonald’s to better serve its customers and expand its reach through the power of technology.

McDonald’s entry into the ONDC network follows the addition of Domino’s Pizza earlier in the year, indicating a growing trend of established brands leveraging ONDC to enhance their digital commerce capabilities.
