Griffith University praises the QSAC announcement.

Griffith University has expressed its support for the State Government’s announcement regarding the exploration of upgrades to the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (QSAC) for the 2032 Olympic Games.

Professor Carolyn Evans, Vice Chancellor and President of Griffith University, highlighted the potential long-term benefits of enhancing the QSAC facility for Brisbane. She emphasized Griffith’s willingness to contribute in any capacity possible.

“Since its inauguration in time for the Commonwealth Games in 1982, QSAC has been a significant asset for Brisbane,” Professor Evans stated. “It has hosted numerous major sporting events and teams, as well as international musical performances by artists like Madonna and Billy Joel.”

Professor Evans emphasized the expanding utility of QSAC as the Olympics draw near and beyond, noting the potential for enhanced transportation connections to benefit residents of Brisbane’s southern suburbs.

She further noted that embracing this initiative would strengthen the partnership between Brisbane 2032 and Griffith University, which is recognized as Australia’s leading tertiary institution for elite sport performance.

Griffith University houses the Griffith Sports College, a specialized support unit that collaborates with elite athletes to help them achieve both their academic and athletic aspirations.

“We are dedicated to collaborating with the Games organizers to leverage our campus facilities and provide expertise from our faculty,” Professor Evans added.
