The Ministry of Education is set to initiate a campaign aimed at raising awareness among first-time voters.

New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Central government inaugurated the “Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye” campaign in higher education institutions nationwide. The campaign, scheduled to take place between February 28 and March 6, aims to inspire and mobilize youth, especially first-time voters, and educate them about the importance of voting for the nation’s overall well-being.

“In response to Prime Minister Modi’s call, I have instructed all higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country to organize comprehensive voter awareness campaigns on their campuses from February 28th to March 6th. These initiatives will energize our #YuvaShakti, stressing the importance of voting, making informed decisions, and engaging in electoral processes for a more inclusive democracy,” he stated.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, also took to social media and shared the #MeraPehlaVoteDeshKeLiye anthem. “Our Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji gave a resounding call in his recent Mann Ki Baat address, and as the nation prepares for its largest festival of democracy, I urge all of you to participate in the #MeraPehlaVoteDeshKeLiye campaign and encourage young voters to exercise their democratic rights,” Thakur said.

As part of the campaign, HEIs nationwide will identify venues on their campuses for voter awareness activities, including competitions such as blog writing, podcasts, debates, essay writing, quizzes, extempore speaking, and battle of the bands. These activities will be documented on the My Government portal for broader dissemination.

Additionally, interactive workshops and seminars will be conducted to emphasize the importance of voting, understanding the electoral process, and encouraging students to take the voter’s pledge on the official website https://ecisveep.nic.in/pledge/ to reaffirm their commitment to the electoral process.
