SPbPU strengthens collaboration with Tsinghua University.

A delegation from Tsinghua University, a key strategic partner of SPbPU, visited the Polytechnic University. The collaboration between the two institutions dates back to the 1950s when Chinese specialists first came to study in Leningrad. The partnership, formalized in 1987, was among the earliest comprehensive agreements between higher education institutions in the USSR and China. Over the years, both universities have become leaders in their respective countries, with close collaboration between scientific groups and consistent support from leadership for numerous joint scientific and educational projects.

The visiting group of master’s and PhD students from Tsinghua University represents various fields of study, including aerospace studies, IT, engineering, earth and life sciences, biomedicine, sociology, and management. Led by Prof. Wang Chuanli and Prof. Wang Renmo, the delegation explored SPbPU’s key laboratories and campus facilities as part of their training programs.

During the visit, the students were introduced to SPbPU’s advancements in information technologies and research projects utilizing Politech’s supercomputer. They also experienced two training and demonstration systems based on VR technologies, focusing on gas compressor unit training and laboratory safety. These interactive applications were developed in collaboration with PAO Gazprom to enhance education quality and training.

Maria Vrublevskaya, Acting Vice-Rector for Advanced Projects, highlighted SPbPU’s strategic goal of addressing the shortage of research engineers in Russia and its friendly nations. She discussed potential areas of cooperation with the Tsinghua delegation, particularly in training high-level engineers to tackle industry challenges. Prof. Wang Zhenmo presented Tsinghua University’s approach to working with talented young individuals and introduced the newly established National Higher College of Engineers.

Ekaterina Belyaevskaya, head of the International Academic Cooperation Department, emphasized the successful cooperation between the two universities in academic mobility, educational programs, and research projects. Wang Chuanli expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the historic and ongoing collaboration between the institutions. He expressed a desire to expand cooperation in new educational and research initiatives and pledged to strengthen student exchanges and cultural cooperation.

The visit concluded with a commitment to continue academic exchanges and collaborative endeavors between SPbPU and Tsinghua University.
