On March 1st, veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister, Dr. Karan Singh, remarked that Jammu, with its rich historical background, is blossoming into a dynamic educational center.
“Jammu, with its captivating history, is witnessing the emergence of an educational hub, with numerous new institutions such as IIT and IIM establishing their presence here. Additionally, several universities already contribute to its educational landscape. The pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi and our temples in Jammu hold significant renown. Amar Palace has also gained recognition across the country,” Dr. Singh stated during the inaugural session of the four-day ‘Tawi festival’ at Amar Mahal.
Reflecting on the history of Amar Palace, he mentioned that it was named after his grandfather, Amar Singh, who was the younger brother of Maharaja Pratap Singh.
“The history of Amar Palace, a magnificent example of French architecture, dates back around 150 years. Constructed by a French architect under his guidance, unfortunately, the original plan, which included a similar structure on the other side, could not be realized,” Dr. Singh recalled.
