ARU commemorates the significant milestone of awarding 1,000 fellowships.

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), named the Times Higher Education (THE) University of the Year for 2023, recently celebrated its 1,000th staff member receiving an AdvanceHE Fellowship.

An AdvanceHE Fellowship signifies a commitment to professionalism and acknowledges excellence in teaching and learning practice, impact, and leadership. Fellowships are granted to individuals involved in higher education teaching and support, based on extensive evidence of personal professional practice aligned with the requirements of the Professional Standards Framework, a rigorous standards framework for the higher education sector.

Since initiating its AdvanceHE accredited scheme in 2013, ARU has achieved the 1,000 milestone with Fellowships spanning four categories – Associate Fellowship, Fellowship, Senior Fellowship, and Principal Fellowship – due to significant and sustained investment in its staff. The scheme is jointly administered by ARU’s Anglia Learning and Teaching department, the School of Education, and the School of Medicine.

Alex Moseley, Head of Anglia Learning and Teaching, expressed the team’s delight at this accomplishment, highlighting its rarity among higher education providers in the UK: “Going above and beyond to support students throughout their learning journey is central to our university’s mission, and we are deeply committed to enhancing this practice. This achievement gives us 1,000 more reasons to take pride in ARU’s teaching and look forward to our students’ future successes.”

In addition to its AdvanceHE recognition, ARU recently received the highest possible award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The Gold ranking, placing ARU among the top 22% of higher education providers alongside prestigious institutions like the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and the University of Warwick, attests to outstanding student experience and outcomes.

Pawel Slobodzian, a Computer Science student at ARU, praised the teaching and support he has received, emphasizing how it has enriched both his subject knowledge and real-life skills. Pawel highlighted the role of his lecturers turned mentors in nurturing his confidence and curiosity within his studies, noting their assistance in securing industry experience and employment related to his field of study.
