The Begum Sultan Jahan Hall at Aligarh Muslim University orchestrated a two-day annual sports festival as part of its Annual Hall Week celebration, known as “Zarafshan.” The fest encompassed various sports events, including both intra and inter-hall competitions.
In his opening speech, the chief guest, Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean of Students’ Welfare, emphasized AMU’s distinctive position as an institution that fosters academic, literary, cultural, and sporting excellence.
Dr. Jameel Ahmed from the Department of Pharmacology graced the inaugural function as a special guest.
On the first day, several inter-hall competitions were held. Rana Firdaus from Begum Sultan Jahan Hall emerged victorious in badminton, while Syeda Sarika Sobnom from Abdullah Hall clinched the table tennis title. In chess, Sadaf Rafique from Begum Azizun Nisa Hall secured the victory, and Zeba Riyasat Hussain and Huma Azeem from BSJ Hall triumphed in carrom. Additionally, the BSJ Hall team claimed victory in Kabaddi.
The second day witnessed enthusiastic participation from hall residents in various intra-hall sports events such as darting, lemon race, tug of war, and musical chairs. The day kicked off with an inter-hall volleyball match.
Special guests Mr. Sardar Hussain, Volleyball Coach at AMU, and Ms. Nida Usmani graced the occasion.
Ms. Amreen Jahan, Secretary of Games, and Ms. Sadaf Rehman, Joint Secretary of Games, played pivotal roles in organizing the festival.
Prof. Saira Mehnaz, the Hall’s Provost, extended a warm welcome to the guests and encouraged students to actively participate in sports events for their personal development and to foster competitiveness.
Ms. Aziza Rizvi, former Director of Physical Education at Women’s College, expressed gratitude in her vote of thanks.
