The Department of Pediatrics observes World Kidney Day 2024.

The Nephrology Division of the Department of Pediatrics at JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, commemorated World Kidney Day 2024 by organizing a kidney week. The week-long event included various activities such as a poster competition, quiz competition, and health awareness camp, all centered around the theme “Kidney Health for All,” emphasizing equal access to kidney health services irrespective of socioeconomic status or geographical location.

A key message of World Kidney Day 2024 highlighted the importance of early detection and intervention in managing kidney disease, as chronic kidney disease (CKD) often progresses silently, necessitating regular screening, especially for individuals with risk factors like diabetes and hypertension.

Furthermore, the event underscored the role of lifestyle factors in promoting kidney health, advocating for healthy habits such as a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and abstaining from tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.

The importance of access to quality healthcare services for individuals living with kidney disease was also emphasized, including affordable medications, dialysis, transplantation, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Several events were organized by the Nephrology Division, Department of Pediatrics, JNMC, including health talks on nephrotic syndrome by Prof. Kamran Afzal, Incharge of the Nephrology Division, and a quiz competition on kidney disorders for undergraduate students.

The winners of the quiz competition were Naushen Saba (MBBS-2022), who secured the 1st prize, Anshuman Gupta (MBBS-2022) in 2nd place, and Vidushi Arya (MBBS-2022) in 3rd place.

Overall, World Kidney Day 2024 emphasized the importance of kidney health for all individuals, calling for collective efforts in prevention, early detection, and ensuring access to quality care.
