Dr. Vijay Kumar, a faculty member from the Department of Physics at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, along with his team, has been granted a patent by the Government of India for their research titled “Biodegradable Packaging Film and How to Make It.” Dr. Kumar’s collaborators include Dr. Vishal Sharma from Panjab University Chandigarh, Dr. Kashma from DAV College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, and Sonal Choudhary from Panjab University Chandigarh.
Describing this achievement as a significant milestone, Dr. Vijay expressed that it reflects their team’s hard work, dedication, and innovative thinking. He emphasized their commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, stating that their biodegradable packaging film offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional packaging materials, meeting the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the market.
The patented biodegradable packaging film comprises agarose, neem gum, hydroxyapatite, and polysorbate 80, with a process for its preparation involving green synthesis. Dr. Vishal Sharma, another member of the team, highlighted the pressing need for eco-friendly solutions, particularly in addressing the environmental challenges posed by plastic accumulation and fragmentation in today’s world.
