The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notice clarifying that no new medical colleges have been approved nor have any seats been increased thus far. The commission urges everyone to remain vigilant against misinformation and fake news.

In response to recent reports in both print and electronic media, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a notice cautioning against what it identified as false information. Specifically, the NMC clarified that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has not approved the establishment of any new medical colleges or the increase of undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG) seats in various medical courses for the academic year 2024-25. The NMC emphasized that these reports have been flagged as fake news.

The notice highlights that applications for the current academic year are still undergoing review, and any decisions made will be promptly updated on the official NMC website. Notably, the MARB has the authority to approve the establishment of new medical institutions, the introduction of postgraduate courses, or the expansion of seat numbers. In the 2024-25 period, the MARB has received 112 applications for new medical colleges and 58 applications for increased MBBS seats in existing institutions.

The NMC urged all stakeholders and the general public to disregard any misleading news circulated in print or electronic media.
