LightFury Games secures $8.5 million in a seed funding round led by Blume.

Gaming startup LightFury Games has secured $8.5 million in its seed funding round, with Blume Ventures leading the investment. Joining in the round are Japanese mobile entertainment firm Mixi, micro venture capital firm Gemba Capital, and angel investors including Kunal Shah and Gaurav Munjal.

The capital raised will fuel the development of AAA titles, initially focusing on mobile games before expanding to other platforms, including consoles. AAA games typically command substantial budgets for development and marketing.

Founded by former Unacademy and Tencent Games executive Karan Shroff, Tina Balachandran, and gaming industry veteran Anurag Banerjee, LightFury Games has also brought on board Chong-U Lim, formerly of Improbable and Electronic Arts, as its chief technology officer (CTO), and Daniel Hall, a long-time Improbable executive, as the company’s senior director of engineering.

CEO Karan Shroff departed Unacademy in September 2022 after a successful three-year tenure, following which he served as the head of brand marketing for Xiaomi India for over four years.

In addition to game development, the raised funds will be utilized to establish game studios in India and the UK and to recruit top talent for these studios.
