    The AMU Kishanganj Centre welcomes a new Director.

    ALIGARH: Professor Ishrat Alam from the Department of History at Aligarh Muslim University has assumed the role of Director at the AMU Kishanganj Centre in Bihar.

     

    With over 35 years of experience in teaching and research, Professor Alam brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. He was awarded the Netherlands Government Reciprocal Fellowship, sponsored by the Government of India, in 1985. He has authored two books and contributed to a book titled “History of Technology in India, Medieval Period,” edited by Harban Mukhia. Additionally, another book authored by him has been accepted for publication by Oxford University Press. Professor Alam has published over 70 research articles in national and international journals.

     

    Throughout his career, Professor Alam has actively contributed to the academic and administrative life of AMU. He has served in various capacities, including Chairman and Coordinator of the Centre of Advanced Study in the Department of History, Provost of Sir Syed Hall (North) from 2019 to 2021, Superintendent of Examination in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences from 2018 to 2021, Coordinator of the B.A. Programme at the Centre for Distance Education from 2006 to 2008, and Assistant Proctor from 1996 to 1999.

     

    Professor Alam has also held editorial roles, serving as the Managing Editor of the prestigious journal, Indian Historical Review, published by SAGE Publications, and as a member of the editorial board of Studies in People’s History (SAGE Publications) and Indian Journal of History of Science (Indian National Science Academy). He served as the Member Secretary of the Indian Council of Historical Research (Ministry of Human Research Development, Government of India) from October 8, 2008, to October 7, 2013, and as Secretary of the Indian History Congress from 2015 to 2017. He currently serves as a member of the Research Council of the Indian National Science Academy, Government of India.
